Kalila

"A horse that has a special gift for everyone! A horse that almost had to be put down after 1 month of her arrival because of severe pain, and trauma. A horse that couldn't walk or stand anymore and today she's running around thanks to a surgery and Natural Healing."

Kalila is a registered APHA overo paint. The first time we saw each other, we built a relationship that I thought could never end.  Therefore this special mare came into my life on September 19, 2019. Kalila was at a ranch in Ontario where she had given birth to a beautiful foal at 2.5 years young (while she was a baby herself) and got heavily started under the saddle as a 3 years old - inhumane! Heavy work was done with her daily. She desperately needed help because she extremely suffered every day.

Sadly one month after her arrival, she was diagnosed with Arthritis. For both Kalila and me, it has been really hard. After offering her multiple therapy sessions including shockwave therapy, laser therapy, acupuncture, chiropractor work, magna wave therapy, massage, beamer, different medications, and lots of love. Kalila sadly didn't get any better. In fact, she got worse. More x-rays were taken and on March 5th 2020, she was diagnosed with a rear joint disease called "Severe Degenerative Joint Disease of the PIP." After doing LOTS of research, talking to multiple vets all over the world, we came to the conclusion that surgery was the last thing on Kalila's path.  I believe in her!! She was also diagnosed with osteoarthritis in the hock in her left hind leg. A pre-existing angular limb deformity is also present at the hock (valgus). I promised her to never ride her again. For this reason, we are making the best out of each day while doing groundwork and liberty together.

Kalila was at the point where she was laying down most of the day, the pain was unbearable. Therefore, she received Arthrodesis surgery in April 2019. There was a 80% chance this would be successful. During the surgery, a plate and screws where places so her joints could fuse. After 4 heavy months of stall rest, paddock rest, hand walking, and lots of love, Kalila successfully made it true. Today she's running around with her best friends. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to Elders Equine for making this a big success! Thank you for making her run again!!!

Besides the surgery, I've worked a lot on Kalila's nutrition. From a very dull yellowish coat to a beautiful shiny grey coat, from a short main to healthy long hair, from a long/cracked hoof to a shiny solid hoof, Kalila is looking very sharp. Natural supplementation/herbs/...is used on a daily basis to keep her comfortable with her other issues. For more information please contact us directly.

Kalila is the most gentle and cutest horse you could ever imagine! She's a really sensitive horse with a big heart. A horse with a lot of talents in her! She is highly trained and enjoys a side pass towards you or a lay down on cue. Kalila is a 6-year-old horse with an amazing colour called grulla. To me, she feels like a little flower. Each day she grows and opens up.

Did you know: In Arabic, the meaning of the name "Kalila" means: « dearly loved ».

The surgery was a big cost! $5000 for the surgery itself + 2 weeks of hospitalization, lifelong "medication", bandages for 6weeks, 4 months of stall rest, ... Today Kalila still receives different natural supplementation  ($400/month) that help keep her comfortable. If you wish to sponsor her, please contact us.
